For 2 Patterson, the all CBE DC-based team proposes to transform the site into a vibrant mixed-income community, providing 405 units of housing and a new permanent home for CityDance and Step Afrika! that includes a black box theater.

Project Concept

The 2 Patterson Community Development Team is made up entirely of DC-based entities with a long track record of completing successful projects. At 2 Patterson, we propose creating a vibrant, mixed-income residential community and performing arts space that exemplify quality architectural design while meeting high standards of sustainability. On the first floor, studio and performance space will be a permanent home for two dance organizations, CityDance and Step Afrika! and will enliven the area day and night.

Many job seekers face multiple challenges related to literacy, computer skills, work readiness, transportation, housing, and other barriers to employment. Skyland Workforce Center has been providing high-quality workforce development programs since 2014, leading to work-ready employee candidates, career-focused job placement, economic self-sufficiency, and improved quality of life.

CityDance is a nationally recognized non-profit arts and education leader serving the national capital region.  With a mission to transform lives and communities through dance, CityDance has pursued its vision of a thriving DC arts community where every child has access to arts education.

Step Afrika! is Washington, DC’s Cultural Ambassador and one of the most celebrated dance companies in the country.  The Company has engaged audiences all across the world including critically-acclaimed performances at the White House for President Barack Obama as well as a recent, sold-out run in Broadway’s legendary Theater District.  Step Afrika! is featured prominently at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture and celebrates its 25th year of performing and serving DC residents in 2019.
